Why do group work?

Group working is just a natural part of a language class. But group work is more than just a convenient activity for a language classroom. In fact, students receive many benefits from working in groups as they study English and pursue language fluency. Group work aids their language learning in many ways even when they may not realize what is happening. Group work holds its advantages for you as a teacher, and who wouldn´t want that?

So why group work? Because group work can double and even, triple the amount of a student’s language production as opposed to whole classroom instruction. The more group work they do, the more students will understand the expectations and get used to working in a more student-centered environment. Collaboration is a valuable life-skill for students and it will effectively build language production.
